about

Ltd Edition boxed Silver 8gb USB Stick in a black engraved flip-box also containing several inserts and a piece of fool's gold.

The Motherlode is a beautiful boxed custom-made USB stick housing 90% of my audiovisual output since 1995 and a great deal of my film and video work also (I used to direct TV programmes. I might again some day).

There are twenty-one music releases on the stick - from recent vinyl works
on labels (such as my Eskdalemuir Harmonium record with Machinefabriek on Komino Records) right through to small editions, plus digital only releases. There are ten sound art releases on here also. Sometimes it’s been difficult to decipher whether the works are music or sound art. In the sound art folder you will find these works have generally been produced for galleries and there are web projects in there also. I’m probably somewhere between a musician and sound artist.

So, what else is there?

Seven 1080p / 720p HD films of broadcast and non-broadcast works, plus there are three standard definition and ten web-sized films of broadcast and non-broadcast works. I remember feeling that had things gone differently in my life, these would be straight dramas and docs, and I’d be schmoozing around Soho to this day. But I got ill.

Plus I was never a great schmoozer. My wife says I have no tact whatsoever but a kind heart, so make of that what you will. I’ve never been very good at not speaking my mind painfully honestly. I am digressing somewhat.
What else is on the stick?

Well, there are a hundred images taken over the last eight years, and twelve bits of writing (of variable quality - some I just wanted storing in this time-capsule). It’s not my forte, but I thought I’d put it out there.

And finally The Otherlode - as mp3s, flacs, mixed and individual tracks.

In short, it’s at least 24 hours of work. And it’s as complete as I could make it. Frequently I find a long-lost project from somewhere, from some other time and state of mind. But it’s the most complete collection of everything I’ve done. Also, many of these albums are still for sale as either digital editions or vinyl works and so I worked out that it costs twenty times more to buy the editions from my Bandcamp page than it does to own this beautiful silver USB stick
