about

One of the tallest points in Ayrshire. From Secret Scotland:

"Brown Carrick Hill relay station is located on the summit of Brown Carrick Hill in South Ayrshire. The site lies about five miles (8 km) northwest of Maybole, just over five miles (9 km) southwest of Ayr, and overlooks the Heads of Ayr to the north, and the Firth of Clyde to the north and west. The summit rises to some 279 metres (915 ft).

A former Royal Navy microwave relay station, the site was taken over by US Navy, but was later to become a commercial operation when the Americans left the Clyde."

These two tracks feature the sound of the fences around the installation in various states of disrepair made with stereo contact mics wedged in the railings, around half a metre apart.

The second track features the sound of a small bridge on the busy A77 road from Glasgow to Stranraer. I chose a bridge with metal railings and supports to make three recordings. The rises and falling in the soundtrack are cars and lorries approaching and departing. Made with contact microphones in a stereo arrangement around a metre apart.
