Station of The Sound
stationsofthelost.bandcamp.com

In this soundscape, designed for headphones, one may wander through the locations in the stories and at the same time hear a unique travel-orientated meander through Portobello, Brunstane and Joppa. From train passes to distant traffic, from cobbled streets to overhead prop planes, this piece is like travelling through Portobello without leaving your room.

The soundscape frequently crosses railway lines as it skirts around the lines. Will you guess all of the locations?

Partly recorded using ‘binaural’ microphones, (in which the artist places in the ear and then breathes very quietly) stereo fields of sound are replicated with similar results in the ears of the listener. Binaural techniques allow for a very immersive soundpiece.

With thanks to: ScotRail, Rosy Naylor and the people of Portobello.
